Citywide Poets is a literary community for young people to explore their lives through the written and spoken word. By participating in intensive artistic mentorship, publication, and performance opportunities, Citywide Poets cultivates a youth-driven narrative for the future of Detroit, rooted in their creativity and artistic vision. Citywide Poets students meet weekly at different sites across the city.

Vision: We believe creative writing and performance are powerful means for young people to express themselves, the challenges they face, and the solutions they imagine. We view arts education as a model of accessible community-based transformation and personal development that centers young people as agents of change.

At multiple sites across the city, Citywide Poets meet once per week with a well renown local artist to hone craft, build performance skills, and engage in the larger artist community of Detroit. Each site serves a different community, and runs at a different time. All sites are free and open to any writer age 13 – 19. When you register, you will be contacted via phone about our next session closest to you. Scroll to the bottom of this page to see a map and details for each site in the city.
