Join Citywide Poets for Saturday Share Open Mic--a virtual community for creatives!Taking place every other Saturday on Instagram Live, this open mic is free and open to youth and adults artists of all ages!Although this is the last Saturday Share of the School year, we will continue with monthly open mics beginning in late June featuring youth writers.===Rachel “Raych” Jackson is a writer, educator and performer. While teaching in Chicago Public Schools for five years, she competed on numerous national poetry teams and individual competitions. She is the 2017 NUPIC Champion and a 2017 Pink Door fellow. Rachel’s work has been published by many—including Poetry Magazine, The Rumpus, and 29Rooms through Refinery29.This events is presented by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.***Citywide Poets is InsideOut’s award-winning afterschool program provides teens with weekly creative writing workshops, publication, and performance opportunities. Brainstorm Summer Arts Institute

InsideOut’s Brainstorm Summer Arts Institute is a week-long deep dive into creative writing and critical thinking. The topic for this year is Detroit History. Students will be provided with a writing packet including a personal journal and a selection of books chosen by esteemed facilitators LaShaun phoenix Moore and Nadine Marshall. Genres will include poetry, prose, songwriting, and improv. Through these methods, students will discover the artists of color who helped shape Detroit’s legacy, reflect on their communities, and create their own writing to be published in an online anthology of youth work.This program is FREE and open to students entering 7th-9th grade in the fall of 2021.Registration is open until May 22nd, 2021.
