Whether you’re a published writer or have never written a haiku, join us the week of August 15th for the InsideOut Write-A-Thon!Commit to a writing goal every day for one week — a poem, an email to a friend, a family recipe, anything you can imagine! — and then ask for your community’s support. All proceeds from your Write-A-Thon benefit InsideOut’s transformative creative writing programs that launch Metro Detroit students off the page and into extraordinary lives.All Write-A-Thon participants receive a daily encouraging email from InsideOut’s expert coaches, including the inspiring words of InsideOut student poets and writing prompts to jumpstart your creativity. You’ll have the opportunity to experience our vibrant community through live virtual writing sessions, conversations about process with local writers and thinkers, and a public open mic to share your work with our community. Brainstorm Summer Arts Institute

InsideOut’s Brainstorm Summer Arts Institute is a week-long deep dive into creative writing and critical thinking. The topic for this year is Detroit History. Students will be provided with a writing packet including a personal journal and a selection of books chosen by esteemed facilitators LaShaun phoenix Moore and Nadine Marshall. Genres will include poetry, prose, songwriting, and improv. Through these methods, students will discover the artists of color who helped shape Detroit’s legacy, reflect on their communities, and create their own writing to be published in an online anthology of youth work.This program is FREE and open to students entering 7th-9th grade in the fall of 2021.Registration is open until May 22nd, 2021.
