2016-17 WRITERS

Over a 25-week residency, our mentor-writers establish special relationships with students. They use authentic sources and topics to prompt students to write about subjects that relate to their lives: current events, popular music, literature, community issues, social interactions, self-exploration. They build a safe writing environment where disengaged students may learn to partake in community. They support students as they learn to know and gain empathy for their classmates through writing and sharing together. Many teachers note that attendance actually goes up on InsideOut writing days.
