CITYWIDE POETS (CWP) iO’s award-winning after school performance poetry troupe for teens offers the mentorship of adult poets who possess strong publication and performance credentials. Youth perform at numerous venues, see their work published in an anthology, take awards for their poetry, and compete to attend the Brave New Voices National Youth Poetry Slam, held annually in various cities across the country.
CWP students have performed at many venues including The Detroit Jazz Fest; Arts Beats & Eats, the Music Hall; 1515 Broadway; Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit; Museum of African American History, Café con Leche, Wayne State University, the Byte This! poetry series and have opened for Nikki Giovanni, Quincy Troupe, Tyehimba Jess and many other fine poets. Check out one of their latest performances below!
