What is Poetry Con?
The Detroit Youth Poetry Con is an immersive day of writing, performance, community building and exposure to artists and creative pathways for teens. The Detroit Youth Poetry Con takes place at Wayne State University an includes a workshop and performance by special guest Mahogany Jones.
The Detroit Youth Poetry Con will take place on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 and is FREE and open to attend for all teens. Registration COMING SOON! Registration closes on March 10th, 2026.
The Detroit Youth Poetry Con is brought to you by InsideOut Literary Arts in partnership with Wayne State University English Department, with support from NBA Foundation and individual donors.

Mahogany Jones
Mahogany Jones is a lyrical force, hailed internationally for her work, as a recording and performance artist, arts educator, and US musical ambassador who’s served 18 countries to date. As a HipHop Soul artist she has released 4 albums and shared stages with acts such as The Roots, India Arie, KEM, Moonchild, Royce da’5’9”, Lecrae, Rapsody, Kareem Riggins, and the like.
A TEDx Speaker, she was awarded as a Detroit Music Award’s Outstanding Rap MC, is a former Kresge Arts Fellow, and most noted as 4x undefeated BET’s 106&Park Freestyle Friday Battle Champion.
