Through a unique school-based Writer-in-Residence model, InsideOut places professional writers into classrooms to partner with teachers. The program infuses poetry, spoken word and other multi-media arts experiences into academic spaces to build stronger reading and writing competencies for youth. Every student has the opportunity to featured in a professionally published literary journal.
InsideOut is committed to creating healthy learning environments that respect our students’ communities and identities, and prepare them for both educational and personal success.
InsideOut programs are designed to support:
- Michigan Department of Education curriculum standards
- English Language Learners
- Social-Emotional Learning, which includes self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making
